SimpleGPS vs Vyncs
Vyncs is cheaper and has no monthly fee. Their entry product delivers GPS points in a batch every three minutes and cannot tell you it was unplugged until it is plugged back in. Which of those matters is the whole decision.
Vyncs prices are on their site and they are lower than ours. Basic 4G+ is $99.99 for the first year plus a one-time $45.99 activation, then $99.99 a year - device, SIM, data and service included, no monthly fee. Premium adds 24/7 roadside assistance for $10 more, which is a genuine benefit we do not offer at any price. Over 200 countries, 30-day money back, thousands of reviews.
Two lines in their own comparison table are the reason for this page. Against "GPS Sample Rate" the footnote reads: Basic, Premium and Fleet send GPS points to your account "together every 3 minutes"; Pro sends them every minute. And the tamper alert is described as "generated when the device is plugged back in after removal from the OBD-II port" - the device has no battery, so while it is unplugged it says nothing at all.
For knowing where the car went, a three-minute batch is fine. For watching a vehicle move, or for finding out that a tracker was pulled out five minutes ago, it is not the same product.

The differences in detail
Three minutes is not real time, and their table says so
Vyncs Basic, Premium and Fleet sample GPS every 60 seconds and send the points to your account together every three minutes - their own footnote. Pro samples every 20 seconds and sends every minute, for $119.99 plus the $45.99 activation. Our trackers send a point every 50 metres travelled or 30 degrees turned, which at road speed is a few seconds apart, and the map updates as each one lands rather than in a batch.
A tamper alert that waits to be plugged back in
This one is worth reading twice. Vyncs raises a tamper alert "when the device is plugged back in after removal" - because there is no battery in it, which they explain is for safety. So if somebody pulls it out of the port, the alert comes when they put it back, if they ever do. Our hardwired trackers are wired in rather than plugged, and an install with a relay can cut the ignition from the app.
What Vyncs costs and what we cost
Vyncs Basic: $99.99 for the first year plus $45.99 one-time activation, so $145.98 to start and $99.99 a year after. SimpleGPS Premium: $52 for the tracker on the annual plan plus $119.88, so $171.88 to start and $119.88 after. They are cheaper by $25.90 in year one and about $20 a year thereafter. That is real money and we are not going to argue it away.
The OBD port, with an asterisk we should mention
Vyncs is an OBD-II plug, but they do sell a 12V power adapter cable for vehicles without an OBD port, which is more than most of their competitors offer. What it does not give you is a hidden install or a battery-powered asset tracker, and our range covers OBD, hardwired, magnetic battery and standalone asset in one account.
Five vehicles, or as many as you like
Vyncs consumer accounts hold a maximum of five vehicles; their Fleet product removes that at $119.99 plus activation per device. Ours is $9.99 a vehicle a month on Premium and $14.99 on Fleet, with no account cap. Below five vehicles they are cheaper; the arithmetic does not change much above it.
If you want the lowest annual cost with no monthly bill, roadside assistance included, and you mainly want to review where a vehicle has been, buy Vyncs. They are cheaper than us in every year - $145.98 against $171.88 to start and $99.99 against $119.88 after - and the roadside cover on Premium is something we do not have. Their consumer accounts hold up to five vehicles, which covers most families.
Bottom line
Vyncs is a trip recorder that costs less. SimpleGPS is a live tracker that costs a little more. If the map has to be current, that is the difference; if it does not, theirs is the better buy
