You buy the device once - it is yours for good. The SIM card comes with it but works only while you have an active plan: if the plan ends, the SIM stops sending data (the device stays yours, just offline). The plan (monthly or yearly) is for the service - live tracking, alerts, history.
It depends on your need: FMC003 - easy OBD install in 30 seconds (yourself); FMC130 - hidden install against theft (expensive/new cars); FTC880 - waterproof, for motorcycles and outside the cabin. Each comes with a SIM card and the service. Not sure? Try the picker on the Contact page.

We provide the device, the SIM card and the platform (the service) - the physical installation is not included and not done by us. OBD models plug into the OBD port in 30 seconds (yourself, no tools). Hidden models are wired by an auto electrician following the included installation guide.
Do not go hunting for a "GPS tracker without a SIM card" - our devices ship with the SIM already inside and it is included in the plan. GPS only gives the coordinates; to see them live on your phone, the device sends them over the mobile network - that is what the SIM is for. A "tracker without a SIM" usually means a Bluetooth tag with a range of a few metres, not real-time tracking of a car. With us you buy no card, swap no card and pay no mobile operator separately - it is all in one monthly fee.
Every vehicle gets its own device with a SIM card and shows up in one shared account: a live map of the whole fleet, trips and stops per driver, distance driven for any period, and alerts (leaving a zone, a long stop, the device being unplugged). Access is through the browser and your phone - no software to install and no server of your own. By replacing guesses with numbers. The monthly report, per vehicle and per driver, shows the real distance driven (not the one written in a notebook), time moving versus time idling - an engine running while the vehicle sits still and burns fuel - and trips outside working hours that nobody ordered. That covers the three usual leaks: inflated mileage logs, needless idling, and private trips in a company car. The report downloads as a table and driving logs come out print-ready, so accounting stops writing them by hand. Yes, and you get two numbers rather than one. Engine hours is the engine running whether or not the machine is doing anything - that is what the hour meter on the dash counts and what service intervals are written against. Working hours is the machine actually moving or lifting. The gap between them is idle time, which on a fuel-burning machine is fuel spent standing still. On a combustion machine we read it from the supply voltage, which rises when the alternator turns; on an electric one voltage says nothing useful, so one wire to the key switch reads the same signal the machine's own meter reads.

If a machine goes out of coverage, the tracker keeps recording into its own memory. The moment it finds signal again it sends the whole backlog at once. The hours arrive late, but the daily total is right.

Yes, on the Fleet plan. You issue your own key from Settings and pull the vehicle list, hours for any window, hours per day and the running total since install. Our vehicle id never changes, so you map it once against your own asset id and the two stay in step. Full reference, including rate limits and how far back history goes, is at /api/docs. There is no setup or integration fee - you write against the documentation and there is nothing for us to charge for.
The device records the data locally and sends it once the connection is restored.
A trip is one journey. Short stops along the way - a gas station, a quick errand, a rest with the engine off up to 30 minutes - stay part of the same trip and are marked with a STOP pin (yellow for 3-29 min, red for 30+ min). A new trip begins only after a longer park of 30 minutes or more, meaning you arrived somewhere and stayed a while. Idling at a light with the engine running is not counted as a stop.
No. SimpleGPS is a self-service platform: you see your own vehicles and your own alerts. Alerts are generated automatically by the software and delivered straight to you - by email, push or in the app. We do not have a monitoring centre, nobody here watches vehicles on your behalf, and we do not contact the police, emergency services or any third party for you. If something happens, the call is yours to make - the platform makes sure you know about it quickly and can act, including cutting the engine remotely where an immobilizer is fitted.
Yes, if you track a company vehicle for a genuine business reason and you have been transparent about it. GPS data for a car driven by an identifiable employee counts as personal data under GDPR, so the company needs a clear purpose (trip and fuel reporting, protecting the asset), must tell drivers in writing what is recorded and why, and must not collect more than it needs. The practical rule: track the vehicle during working hours, not the person in their own time - which is why a short written policy, signed by the drivers, is worth having. Tracking somebody else's car without the owner knowing is illegal and is not what this service is for. We act as the data processor: the data is yours, it stays in the EU (Germany) and is not shared with third parties - see the privacy policy and the data processing agreement.
